Even if you are a no-fail “sunscreen-applier,” I know that everyone out there has experienced a HORRIFIC sunburn of sorts. Am I right? I knew it! Whether you got it at the beach, in the yard, or lounging pool side, sunburns are uncomfortable and awful! Here are 8 home remedies that will help you reduce the burn (and itch!)
#1 Apple Cider Vinegar
Add one cup of apple cider vinegar (use the brand pictured below) to a warm bath. The vinegar helps balance PH levels across your skin, which helps promote fast healing! Who knew?
#2 Oatmeal Bath
It sounds disgusting, but is super effective. Add a two cups to your bath, and soak in the substance. This helps reduce that awful itch! Add a couple drops of lavender essential oil for extra healing!
#4 Baking Soda
Add two cups of baking soda to a warm bath to help with itching, redness, and burning. The baking soda might even clean your bathtub, so it’s a two for one, I guess!
#4 Coconut Oil
Coconut oil isn’t super effective at treating the initial burn, but it’s a terrific moisturizer! Use it when your skin begins to peel.
#4 Lavender Essential Oil
Mentioned in a previous slide, Lavender oil is known for it’s skin-soothing properties. Dilute with coconut oil (or another carrier oil like Avocado or Hemp) and apply directly to the burn. You can add a couple of drops to a warm bath, also!
#5 Aloe Vera
I can’t not mention Aloe Vera! As I’m sure you know, Aloe is known for it’s amazing skin soothing properties. Use products with Aloe, or purchase an Aloe leaf from a greenhouse. It’s great for both the burning AND the peeling!
Brew up a cup or two of black tea! After it has steeped, let the tea completely cool. Use a washrag to dab it on the sunburned areas of your skin.
Did you know that cucumbers have a natural analgesic in them? Me either! Use your food processor to create a cucumber paste, apply directly to the burnt area!
